Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) Business Partnering Team Leader

Location: Flexible hybrid working arrangements | Based in Fitzroy, Melbourne

Employment Type: Permanent Full-time

Salary: $122,960 to $128,093 per annum, plus 12% superannuation

At the Brotherhood of St. Laurence (BSL), we don’t just talk about wellbeing - we live it, every day. We’re on a mission to create inclusive, people-centred services and a work environment where everyone feels safe, supported and empowered. Now, we’re looking for a passionate and experienced Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) Business Partnering Team Leader to help us take that vision even further.

The Opportunity

This isn’t your average HSW leadership role. You’ll be at the heart of shaping BSL’s approach to health, safety, and wellbeing - partnering with teams across the organisation, leading an experienced and committed HSW crew, and embedding practices that genuinely improve people’s lives.

We want someone who leads with heart and thinks practically. Someone who sees beyond compliance and into culture, and who thrives on building relationships, influencing at all levels, and helping others do their best work, safely and confidently.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading and mentoring a small, tight-knit HSW team to deliver responsive and practical solutions.
  • Partnering with leaders and staff to implement robust systems, programs and policies that make safety and wellbeing a shared commitment.
  • Embedding continuous improvement into everything you do whether it’s audits, risk assessments, data reporting, or emergency planning.
  • Using your expertise to build HSW awareness and capabilities across BSL through coaching, education and active engagement.
  • Contributing to injury management activities that focus on safe and sustainable return-to-work outcomes.
  • Creating an environment where everyone from our community-facing teams to our operations staff feels empowered and safe at work.

You’ll Bring

  • Relevant qualifications (minimum Cert IV in OHS or equivalent) and solid understanding of legislation, best practices, and current trends.
  • Proven experience in business partnering and coaching across a diverse and complex organisation.
  • A collaborative, values-led leadership style that inspires confidence, growth and accountability.
  • Expertise in designing and delivering proactive HSW programs and risk management initiatives.
  • Confidence in using systems such as QuickSafe/QuickClaims and a high level of digital literacy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to engage across all levels of an organisation.
  • A genuine alignment with BSL’s mission and a desire to make a meaningful impact.

Why BSL?

At BSL, our work is driven by our values: compassion, inclusion, integrity, and innovation. You’ll be part of a community that’s deeply committed to social justice and that starts with taking care of our people. We offer:

  • A supportive, purpose-driven environment
  • Generous Not-for-profit salary packaging
  • Opportunities for professional development and growth
  • Hybrid work arrangements
  • Access to wellbeing programs and initiatives
  • The chance to lead work that truly matters
