We’re looking for a professional HIPPY Home Tutor with relevant experience to join our team on a maximum term part-time contract, working 15.2 hours per week based in Fitzroy.
THE ROLE
HIPPY Home Tutors are parents or carers involved in the HIPPY program with their child, either currently or in the past 12 months. HIPPY Home Tutors are employed for the 2 years of the program to provide peer support and deliver the HIPPY program activities to approximately 10-15 families in a positive and engaging way, during Home Visits and Gatherings.
Through regular visits, parents are given relevant materials, as well as enabled to increase their skills and confidence to prepare their child for a successful school life. Some of the responsibilities are:
- Develop and maintain a positive relationship with families to support the development of new skills and confidence in the parent
- Organise and attend Home Visits to deliver the HIPPY activities for assigned families (usually one visit per fortnight for each family during school terms)
- Role play HIPPY activities with parents during Home Visits to ensure they are familiar with activities and are confident completing them with their children
- Work as part of a team to support a safe and positive play-based learning environment for children and their parent/carers during regular Gatherings.

- Enrolment in, and commitment to, the HIPPY program with a relevant participant of the program
- Second language shared by families in the HIPPY program
- Qualification in Community Services or other relevant field
- Interest and enthusiasm in supporting other families with the ability to utilise a positive and encouraging approach, and to work flexibly
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships and liaise across all levels both internally, externally and with people from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to identify problems and participate in effectively resolving these, as required
